Lung cancer screening is a powerful tool for early detection. A low-dose CT (LDCT) scan can find lung cancer at its earliest, most treatable stage, often before you even experience symptoms. At Premier Lung & Sleep Institute, we provide quick, convenient, and safe lung cancer screening for eligible patients, giving you peace of mind.

An LDCT is a non-invasive, low-radiation imaging test that takes detailed pictures of your lungs. This quick scan is designed to find very small spots, called pulmonary nodules, which could be early signs of cancer. Finding these nodules early significantly increases the chances of a successful outcome.
Who Is Eligible for Lung Cancer Screening?
The most common eligibility criteria for this life-saving screening are based on age and smoking history. You may qualify if you are:
- 50–80 years old
- Have a 20 or more pack-year history of smoking (e.g., smoking one pack a day for 20 years or two packs a day for 10 years)
- Are a current smoker or have quit within the last 15 years
We will help you determine your eligibility and discuss if this test is right for you.
What to Expect During Your Screening
- Preparation: There is no special preparation. You don’t need to fast or have blood drawn. Just wear comfortable clothes and remove any metal jewelry or items from your chest area.
- The Test: The scan is quick and painless. You’ll lie on a table that slides through the CT machine. The test takes only a few minutes, and you can breathe normally.
- After the Test: Our lung specialists will review your scan. If a nodule is found, we’ll follow a proven, evidence-based plan to monitor it. It’s important to remember that most nodules are not cancer.
Benefits and Risks
The primary benefit of an annual LDCT scan is a reduced risk of dying from lung cancer. While the test uses low-dose radiation, the benefits for high-risk individuals generally outweigh the small risks. We will discuss the pros and cons with you to ensure you make an informed decision about your health.
